Weather in Bulgaria. What season is the best for holidays in BulgariaBulgaria is attractive for tourists all year round. In summer you can relax on the famous Black Sea beaches, in winter you can visit winter ski resorts with spectacular slopes and well-developed infrastructure. In the offseason this country hosts numerous cultural events, festivals and celebrations. Spring and autumn are proper time for religious tourism and treatment in sanatoriums with mineral waters.
Beach season in Bulgaria opens in the beginning of May and lasts until the end of September. On the Black Sea coast a mild temperate climate prevails, without huge temperature swings or strong winds. Generally weather is comfortable and appropriate for rest even with small children. Peak season is in July, but this month can be quite hot (30ºC), and the beaches and hotels are overcrowded by tourists. Therefore, the most proper time for the holiday is in the second half of June, at the end of August or in beginning of September, when the sea is still warm, and the air temperature is not too high.
Ski resorts in Bulgaria, perhaps, are inferior to well-known European slopes by a number of measures, but they have a lot of advantages, one of which is the reasonable price for vacation. High season in the mountains is the end of December and January, it is especially crowded here during the Christmas holidays. During the holidays the price of vacation may rise significantly. The weather at ski resorts is not too cold and quite snowy; snowfalls are frequent, but brief. The best time to come here is in February, when there are no strong winds or large influx of tourists.
Arriving in Bulgaria in the spring, for example, in April, you’ll find nature in full bloom. The country has a large number of national parks, sanctuaries, monasteries and historical monuments, which are best to visit at this time of year. If you are lucky with the weather, you can swim and sunbathe on the beach in late April, early May or in September, catching the "Indian summer".
